203 and 204 of 210 : Emily and Danna

When Emily’s niece died, the pastor ended the memorial service by inviting her nonreligious relatives to stand and give their lives to Jesus; when they didn’t, he berated them: “I hope you remember this as the day you rejected Christ, because you’ll never see Vickie again.”

When Danna’s great-grandmother died, one of granny’s sons was in prison, but was allowed to attend the funeral in shackles. When the family Pentecostals started wailing hysterically, he seized the opportunity and fled, shackles and all. Few noticed, however, since at that moment an obese grieving relative collapsed on the coffin and toppled it.

Sounds like a Coen and Coen movie.

Indeed. Are these two related, or are they just both Shocking Funeral Stories?

Twosbalv in one day. Time is collapsing in on itself.

IB: They are unrelated Shocking Funeral Stories.

A: I don't know what "twosbalv" means, but if you're wondering about the doubling up of the posts, it's because I when I started this project, I miscalculated how many days there were until my birthday (I counted 210, when there were really only 209). Since I want the final post to be about me, me, me, and to appear on my birthday, one day needed to contain two posts, and these two lent themselves thematically.

It's always about you you you. (Except when it's about me...)

A: I love the Coen brothers. Though this could also be something out of a Flannery O'Conner novel, couldn't it?

What will we do for fun when you end writing your 365 posts next week?

How sweet of you to say so, Otter! Actually,I'll be starting another blog, which will launch on Tuesday as this one ends. It will also be a daily journal/column (blogs are so hard to categorize!), but it won't have the fifty word restriction or be limited to people I've encountered. I'm actually pretty excited about it. I'll put a permanent link to it on my main page here.

I like how you put a humorous story after the disturbing one. The first one really upset me - how can someone say something like that? It is heartless.

I should have done the same as you - the number of posts until my next birthday instead of for a year.
