38 of 210 : Karl

After using a brush to remove every last speck of dust from the LP, he let us hear the opening strains of Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G Minor. We gasped at the exquisitely etherial music. No more than forty-five seconds later, he lifted the needle. “Just a taste,” he said.

And he did it over, and over, and over again, with different pieces of music, all wondrous, all such brief snippets that we wanted to strangle him. Repeatedly.

Ditto what Indigo said.

But you still love him despite all his flaws?

You should have played it backward so he could hear all the satanic messages. But not the whole message, just a taste.

Otter: He changed his name and dropped out of sight about 25 years ago, so the most I could love is the memories of tea and sherry in his dorm room before we went down to dinner.

MM: Allowing another human close enough to his records to be able to physically touch the album covers was anathema to him. But I would love to hear Wagner played backwards. I'm sure Die Walkyrie would sound like...Die Walyrie.
